This article presents a study that considered objective to analyze the development of three competences math: approach to resolve problems, communication and argument; with students of second degree of secondary in a Mexican public school, to identify how impacts the technique of projects oriented learning (POL) as innovative instructional design for improve the mathematical learning of the students. The methodology utilized was the multiple case study, applying: binnacle analysis instruments, questionnaire, interview and analysis of projects applied to the students. The finds show the development of the three competences math upon using POL and to resolve problems of their interest and context, putting in play an assembly of capacities as to identify, to present and to resolve problems; explaining, justifying and showing.
