Large - Scale Evaluation and Elementary School: From Curriculum to Quality or from “Quality” to Curriculum?

 
Abstract
 

The present article aimed at the relation between the creation of Educational Large-Scale Assessment Systems in Brazil and the elementary school curriculum. In this sense, it discusses the creation of the National System of Educational Assessment – SAEB and Prova Brasil and its relation with the curriculum as well as possible contributions of the results to the quality of the public elementary school. The main finding based on documental analysis of the selected assessments reference matrices and bibliographic research of case studies focused on local education systems is that the contributions and changes occur from the evaluation-curriculum perspective and not from the evaluation-curriculum perspective as expected. This process must be planned and monitored in order not to promote curriculum reduction and diversity loss in elementary school.
