.Abstract | |||||
Most countries have chosen to incorporate information and communication technologies into schools to improve student ICT skills. In Chile, schools are the main channel for developing learning and communication, especially for more socially vulnerable students. However, the progress made in connectivity and equipment has not been accompanied by programs for evaluating and developing the required teaching skills. This study analyzes data from the First Longitudinal Teachers’ Survey on access and the basic use of technologies. Its findings are of interest for future policies on teacher training, standards and assessment for improving the impact of ICT in the classroom. Preschool, public school and older teachers all exhibit significantly lower levels of familiarity with and use of technologies than their peers. Additionally, between secondary education teachers, women present lower levels of ICT use than men. |
