Quality as well as excellence of university teaching staff is one of the principles that guide the Higher Education European Space (Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior). Thus current Spanish norms deem evaluations of teaching, investigation and management activities by professors obligatory, different types of evaluations in function to themes and repercussions are laid out and give responsibility to the State, Autonomous communities and universities. This way, the Spanish evaluating system is made up by a series of subsystems, vaguely related with each other and with ever-changing regulations. This brief document offers a descriptive picture, with a few critical elements of the actual system; setting apart the evaluation of the teaching function and its promotion, the investigation related activities, teaching performance and the salary incentive evaluation.
