    .Abstract

In Honduras, the results of external evaluation for the learning of Spanish and Mathematics, during the last decade, had remained unchanged at low values; nearing 40% as a national average. Nonetheless, the introduction of a new syllabus for elementary education through a system of educational material supporting the teaching staff (such as text books, didactic guides for teachers, educational standards, educational programs, performance standards, monthly formative tests and workbooks for students) seem to have changed this trend. The development and implementation of this system of educational material has been possible with the international support and collaboration as part of the Education for all (EFA) initiative; and specific projects such as PROMETAN by JICA and MIDEH by USAID. Thus, this can be considered as evidence of a successful intervention in a national educational system.
