    .Abstract

This article presents the results of a research project oriented to develop an evaluation model for educational institutions. The model was composed by 54 indexes, each one aimed to provide information to head directors and managers for improving decision making processes and, in turn, for improving educational management and quality. The research study was carried out with public high schools and universities in the State of Guanajuato, Mexico.  This study was divided into three parts:  (1) a needs assessment of evaluation of educational institutions; (2) the proposal and implementation of the evaluation model; and (3) the transfer processes of the model through evaluators' training.  Results from this study are related to the 54 indexes grouped in 10 categories:  (1) quality of teaching and learning; (2) human capital; (3) social capital; (4) research; (5) consulting services; (6) social service; (7) promotion of culture; (8) physical assets; (9) social prestige; and (10) economic sustainability.
