A Virtual Environment of Learning (AVA) as Potentializer of the Student’s Autonomy: Study of a Case from the UAB-UnB

.Abstract
 

The context of this Research was based on the virtual learning environment, in which has been inserted the discipline "Psychology and the Construction of Knowledge", mandatory for students in first semester of courses from Brazil’s Open University Program at the University of Brasilia. The study analyzes the educational and psychosocial aspects involved in virtual environment of an on-line course and its potential generator of the autonomy of the learners from the theoretical framework of the Triangle Interactive (Coll, 2005). We adopted the case study, and used as collection data instruments: 1) observation of the virtual learning environment, 2) application of the Protocol of indicators of the potential for autonomy (PIPA), and 3) an interview with the teacher. The results show improvement of the autonomy of learning. Argument is that the instructional design, the spatial and temporal organization of the virtual environment, the creative joint activities and professor’s beliefs and previous experiences in e-learning were determinate to generating attitudes of autonomy. We concluded that teacher’s doing can turn possible the use of technology as an educational and social tool, placing ICT in to support social and cognitive development and student’s autonomy.
