Evaluation of the Psychometric Properties of the Teacher Evaluation Questionnaire (DOCENTIA) for its use in a Mexican Sample

Beatriz Acosta
.Abstract

Teaching activity evaluation has permitted educational institutions to reflect upon their mission, their education, and quality in general. Universities should choose the principal sources and methods to obtain information that they believe to be adecuate to based upon the objectives and implications of evaluation.

Certainly, questionnaires administered to students are best way for universities respond to policies of teaching evaluation. “The use of the questionnaire is due to the fact that “the performance or learning achieved by the students in the course is the variable that most greatly affects the effectiveness of the teacher”.

The aim of this study is to analyze the psychometric properties of the teaching evaluation questionnaire DOTENTIA (ANECA, 2006) for use in a Mexican sample.

The results showed an alpha coefficient of 0.91 to 0.95. The study provided evidence which questions the theoretical structure questionnaire. However, the results supported equivalence of Cronbach alpha coefficients as factorials structure. Akaike’s information criterion has provided information about one-dimensional structure. Prospective studies will continue to obtain evidences about the teaching evaluation construct.
