Kelly Kathleen Metz, Alex Chambers, & Todd Fletcher | ||||||
Abstract | ||||||
The authors provide a brief history of special education in the Unites States and describe the current status of special education with an emphasis on the benefits, challenges and obstacles faced by educators in moving toward inclusive education policies and programs. Special education teacher preparation programs are examined in regard to the manner in which they prepare future special educators for serving students in an inclusive environment. The authors conclude with suggestions for overcoming obstacles toward inclusion and improving the quality of inclusive special education services. |
