Abstract | |||||||
This article identifies emergency situations as a source of serious violations of the right to education, which currently affects a large number of people. Emergency is defined as situations arising from armed conflicts and natural disasters. The text review this issue by first making a brief introduction to education in emergencies, assesses the consequences of emergencies and details the current developments on the place of education within them. Subsequently, an overview of legal and political framework which responds, in part, to these situations and reveals responsibilities of those involved. The following outlines the priorities of the agencies 'auditors' and donors that are involved in one way or another in the realization of the right to education in emergency situations and attempts to identify the main "providers" of education. Affected populations and the curriculum are the subject of the following sections. Finally, we include general recommendations to States, donors, intergovernmental organizations and civil society organizations. |
